New Forest Primary Tag Rugby
Ballard School, 6th March 2009

More and more children participating in the New Forest School Sports Calendar
The New Forests Primary School Sports programme exploded once again with thirty teams turning out for the annual tag rugby tournament at Ballard School on Friday 6th March.

The event played host to a number of small school teams from over the New Forest. Some of these included teams from Abbotswood, Breamore, Brockenhurst, Burley, Calmore, Hale, Hyde, Lymington, Marchwood, Milford on Sea, Pennington, South Baddesley and Wildground.
Thrilling rugby was played by over 300 boys and girls making for some high scoring games on the Ballard school field. The quarter-finals once again produced some thrilling matches with Ballard producing one of the shocks of the round by knocking out the 2008 champions Abbotswood.

In the semi-finals Ballard and Orchard, who finished third in their respective groups, were both victorious and progressed through the final by over coming Lymington and Poulner. In the final both teams displayed some excellent talent with end-to-end rugby being played throughout the whole game. Those who stayed behind were treated to a fantastic finale to the competition.
Four time winners, Orchard eventually ran-out champions, when both sides could only be separated by a golden try after normal, added and extra time!

Rob Crocker, from the New Forest School Sport Partnership, was delighted to see so many boys and girls from all over the Forest enjoying the game of rugby, “especially as the competition provided some of the most captivating games of rugby seen at the event, now in its seventh year”.
